How to fold your dinner napkins

Most of the time its enough to simply have cloth napkins on the table, and a simple fold looks great. However for a special dinner, or if you have a little more time, we have given you three super easy folding techniques to try:

Simple pocket

Start with the napkin flat. If you have a patterned napkin, ensure the pattern is facing up.

Step 1 - Fold in half lengthways with the fold towards you

Step 2 - Fold the napkin again so that it is a square, with the open corner facing to the top left

Step 3 - Fold the top layer in half

Step 4 - Flip the napkin over. The open edge should now be to the right. Fold back the right hand side of the napkin by about a third

Step 5 - Fold back the left side of the napkin by about a third

Step 6 - Flip the napkin over and you have a pocket to tuck cutlery or a menu card.

Multi fold

Start with the napkin flat. If you have a patterned napkin, ensure the pattern is facing up.

Step 1 - Fold in half lengthways with the fold towards you

Step 2 - Fold the napkin again so that it is a square, with the open corner facing upwards

Step 3 - Fold the top layer in half

Step 4 - Fold the next two layers leaving around a finger width of the last layer exposed each time

Step 5 - Flip the napkin over

Step 6 - Fold over the top so that you have an upside down triangle shape

Step 7 - Fold back the right side of the napkin by about a third

Step 8 - Fold back the left side of the napkin by about a third

Step 9 - Flip the napkin over. You can either lay it flat or stand it up.

Bow fold

Start with the napkin flat. If you have a patterned napkin, ensure the pattern is facing down.

Step 1 - Fold in half with the open edge facing to the left

Step 2 - Fold the left side over by a quarter

Step 3 - Fold the right side by a couple of inches, and repeat until all of the napkin is folded up

Step 4 - Fold the bottom up to the right into a 45 degree angle

Step 5 - Fold the top to cross it

Step 6 - Pull it all together, secure with a napkin ring or string, and flip the napkin over.
